ACCOMPLISHMENTS
Here are highlights from The EEGO Foundation’s
more than thirty years of accomplishments. Our history
demonstrates the strength of community and the power
of working together for equality and justice.
- EEGO began as early as
1981 to hold discussions, seminars and fundraisers related
to the AIDS crisis.
- EEGO led the way for the creation of local
Domestic Partner Registries.
- EEGO has been forceful and effective in
reacting to injustices that infringed on our equal rights.
For example, when access to our local beaches were denied,
we fought successfully to reverse town practices; we demanded
public apologies and restitution for newspaper articles
that were negative to the LGBT community.
- EEGO created
the Linda Leibman Human Rights Fund with the help of
Linda’s
father. Linda died of cancer at the age of 39. She was
a founding member of EEGO and a human rights activist. All
our fundraising efforts continue to be inspired by her
work and her life.
- EEGO formed a business partnership program
to develop stronger relationships with East End businesses.
- EEGO created an annual Charitable Outreach Program whereby EEGO donates to local charities and LGBT advocacy organizations from all profits derived from its activities and fundraising events throughout the year.
- EEGO participated as an active member
of local Anti-Bias Task Forces.
- EEGO established
an annual fund for graduating high school seniors who
were active in their schools’ Gay/Straight
Alliances.
